In the book of Genesis, we are told of the beautiful garden of Eden, where Adam and Eve lived. Created on the sixth day, the couple were instructed by God to enjoy the garden and all of the wonders it had to offer. The only exception was, they were not to eat the apple from the tree of knowledge. One day, while exploring the garden, Eve saw a snake hanging from one of the trunks of the tree. The snake tempted Eve with the apple from the tree of knowledge advising that by eating the forbidden fruit she would become God’s favorite and wonderful things were going to happen. Eve fell into temptation and bit the apple. She continued the deed by tempting Adam to do the same. God became disappointed in his creations and abolished them from the garden.
Throughout time, snakes have become a symbol for those who are of toxic nature and who tempt us. Those who suffer from large ego syndrome or those who are motivated by jealousy and envy are often the characters who attract such negative entity.
“Those who pray for your downfall are concentrating negative thoughts towards you, without taking cognizance of the slippery group in which they are standing, which could lead to their downfall” – Michael basset Johnson
As I am writing this piece, there is a teenage girl on the phone, spitting venom as she details her opinions about another individual. What drives a person to be mean to others? The way I see it is… these sort of behaviors highlight the insecure and fragile person that is inside. It shows how these people have to bring others down in order to make themselves feel better.
I have also come across those who are power-hungry and who have a constant need to put others down in order to make themselves better. Those people are found in most workplaces. There’s at least one. Whether it’s a retail job or in a big corporation, power-hungry men and women become snakes in order to establish their empire.
“Treat them with the contempt that they deserve. Bring confrontational and responding to the abuse is not conducive to a peaceful, stress-free life. Be conveniently deaf, blond and dumb. It’s so much more effective when yours is not the expected reaction” – Margaret Young
There’s always going to be snakes in this world. The secret is to not let yourself get bitten. Once the negative energy latches onto your spirit, you become possessed and like others, you become an entity of toxic behavior. We live in a society that breeds negativity, hate and prejudice. The secret to surviving is to become the rose among the thorns. Be kind to others. Don’t step on their necks in order to get ahead and to make your fragile self esteem feel better.
